# Hype & Genius > Hype & Genius is a UK creative cultural body and social enterprise, founded in 2023 and winner of the Partnership Working Award at the London Youth Awards 2023, jointly with the youth charity Shadow To Shine, for the Hype & Genius Creative Summer School. It works on both sides of the creative industries: advising brands, institutions and funders on structural problems in the sector — exploitation, unpaid work, closed networks, uneven access and progression — and delivering the creative work, partnerships and programmes that put that thinking into practice. Over 2,500 creatives have come through its programmes across music, fashion, media and content. It operates as a limited company for agency and consultancy work and a community interest company for the free programmes. Hype & Genius is an award-winning creative cultural body and social enterprise working across the UK creative industries, and winner of the Partnership Working Award at the London Youth Awards 2023. We do three things: advise brands, institutions and funders on the structural problems in the sector, deliver creative work and cultural programming as an agency, and run free and funded programmes for creatives. Over 2,500 creatives have come through our programmes across music, fashion, media and content. ### What does Hype & Genius do? We work in three arms. Our consultancy runs structural audits, workforce strategy and training for organisations that engage creatives. Our agency designs and delivers brand activations, events, cultural programming and talent-led content. Our programmes are free and funded training across music, fashion, content and creative business, taught by people working in the industry now. We also run The Benchmark, a fair practice standard for the creative industries. ### Who does Hype & Genius work with? On one side, brands, institutions, funders, local authorities and cultural organisations who want to work better with creative talent. On the other, creatives themselves, through programmes and music camps. Past partners and delivery contexts include Fender, Westminster Council, Warner Bros. Discovery, Nando’s, Garden Studios and the London Enterprise and Development Company. ### Where is Hype & Genius based? Hype & Genius works UK-wide. Programmes and creative delivery have run across London and beyond, and consultancy work is delivered nationally, remotely or on site. ### How do I get in touch with Hype & Genius? Use the enquiry form on the Work with us page at hypeandgenius.com/work-with-us, email info@hypeandgenius.com, or book a call directly. We come back on enquiries within two working days. ### Who runs Hype & Genius? Hype & Genius is led by two co-directors. Korinna Williams is a strategic leader with over ten years across youth employment, education and creative enterprise, who has led partnerships with brands including Sony and Samsung and previously served as a chief executive in the youth sector and COO of a tech startup. Khadijah Noel, who records as Lylo Gold, is a strategic consultant, educator and programme designer who works in the music team at Arts Council England and brings fifteen years in the music industry as a recording artist. ### When was Hype & Genius founded? Hype & Genius was founded in 2023. ### Has Hype & Genius won any awards? Yes. Hype & Genius won the Partnership Working Award at the London Youth Awards 2023, jointly with the youth charity Shadow To Shine, for the Hype & Genius Creative Summer School — a six-week programme giving young people the chance to learn, upskill and build careers in the creative industry. Garden Studios and Fender were delivery partners on the programme. ### Is Hype & Genius a charity or a business? Hype & Genius is a social enterprise. It operates through a limited company, which delivers the agency and consultancy work, and a community interest company (CIC), which delivers the free programmes. Income from commercial work supports the programmes that are free at the point of access. ### Why does Hype & Genius exist? To make creativity something more people can reach. Around 75% of creative workers get their job through a friend or contact, 51% of UK creative output is generated in London alone, and only 5.4% of the creative workforce comes from a lower socio-economic background. Unpaid work, closed networks and uneven treatment keep people out. Hype & Genius opens up access, sets standards for fair and sustainable practice, and leads on the education that helps creatives build careers. ### What does Hype & Genius consultancy actually deliver? Three things. Structural audits and reviews, which assess how an organisation works with creatives across pay, conditions, hiring, progression and practice, benchmark it against the sector, and set out a practical route forward. Strategy and culture work, covering creative workforce strategy and how an organisation builds, keeps and develops creative talent. And training and capability sessions, led by practitioners active in the sector now. ### Who is the consultancy for? Brands, institutions, funders, local authorities, venues and cultural organisations that engage creative talent and want to do it better. If your organisation commissions, employs, funds or programmes creative work, the consultancy applies. ### What makes Hype & Genius different from a standard management consultancy? We sit on both sides of the sector. We advise the industry while working directly with creatives every day through our programmes and camps, so recommendations are tested against real delivery rather than drawn from desk research alone. The thinking behind the work is our own methodology, developed through direct delivery with over 2,500 creatives. ### How does a consultancy engagement start? Start a conversation through the Work with us page or book a call. We take time to understand how your organisation operates, test what we find against best practice across the sector, and give you recommendations built to be implemented. ### What does the Hype & Genius agency arm do? Four things: brand activations and events, from pop-ups and showcases through to full production, talent and content capture; cultural programming for venues, spaces and brands; talent-led content and campaigns; and talent experiences that connect brands directly with creative talent, including reimagined recruitment days. ### Why do brands come to Hype & Genius rather than a traditional creative agency? Because the work is powered by the creatives we work with every day across music, fashion, content and media. That network is why the output lands as culture rather than marketing, and why brands come to us when credibility with a creative audience matters. ### Can Hype & Genius handle an event end to end? Yes. Activations and events are designed and delivered end to end, from concept and curation through to production, talent booking and content capture. ### Are Hype & Genius programmes free? Our programmes are free or funded at the point of access, delivered through our CIC. They run across music, fashion, content and creative business, and are taught by practitioners working in the industry now. ### Who can apply to a Hype & Genius programme? Programmes are aimed at emerging creatives across music, fashion, content and creative business. Individual intakes carry their own eligibility, which is published when the intake opens. Register your interest at hypeandgenius.com/register-interest to hear first when the next one does. ### What programmes does Hype & Genius run? Eight standing programmes: Music Production, Music Business, Fashion, Content Creation, Creative Entrepreneurship, Life as a Freelance Creative, Creative Business Toolkit, and Creativity and Resistance. Partnered highlights have included Music Business at Fender HQ, Fashion Entrepreneurship with Westminster Council, Content Creation and Media at Garden Studios, and a Creative Business Incubator funded by LEDC that ends in a live pop-up. ### How many people have been through Hype & Genius programmes? Over 2,500 creatives, with 97% completing the programme they start. ### When does the next intake open? Free and funded programmes open throughout the year. Register interest at hypeandgenius.com/register-interest and you will be told first when the next intake opens. ### What is a Hype & Genius music camp? A professional writing and recording camp that brings artists, producers, engineers, songwriters and musicians into professional studios to write, record and finish music together. It runs like an industry camp and is led by people working in the industry now. ### Do artists keep their masters at a Hype & Genius music camp? Yes. Every artist keeps 100% of their masters. That is the point of the model: proof that music can be made properly without taking ownership from the people making it. ### What else does a music camp cover beyond studio time? Artist development that most artists are never taught, covering PRS, royalties and legals through to digital marketing, plus paid performance opportunities after the camp ends. ### What have music camp alumni gone on to do? Alumni credits include records with Justin Bieber and Ty Dolla $ign, plays on BBC Introducing and BBC Radio 1Xtra, The Ivors with Amazon Music, 3.6M views on a single alumni video, 1.3M+ likes on alumni TikTok content, paid showcases including Upstairs at the Ritzy, and live performances on DJ AG. ### How do I join a Hype & Genius music camp? Camps open by intake. Register your interest at hypeandgenius.com/register-interest to be told when the next camp opens for applications. ### What is The Benchmark? The Benchmark is the first fair practice standard for the creative industries: a single certification for organisations that engage creative talent well and want to be recognised for it. It is run by Hype & Genius and covers payment, conditions, safeguarding, inclusion and progression. ### What does The Benchmark measure? Five pillars. Payment and financial fairness, meaning creative work paid properly and on time with no reliance on unpaid labour. Working conditions and hours that people can sustain. Safeguarding and behaviour, including clear standards and routes to raise concerns. Diversity, inclusion and social mobility across hiring, progression and leadership. And progression and investment in the people whose creativity the organisation relies on. ### How is The Benchmark different from B Corp or the Living Wage? The Benchmark learns from established models like B Corp, the Living Wage and the Good Work Standard, but is designed specifically for how the creative sector operates, including freelance and project-based work. It is grounded in research into working conditions across the creative industries and into what makes certification schemes succeed. ### How can an organisation get certified by The Benchmark? The Benchmark is currently taking founding partners. Register interest through the Work with us page at hypeandgenius.com/work-with-us. ### What is the H&G Methodology? The H&G Methodology is Hype & Genius’s approach to creative learning, developed through direct delivery with over 2,500 creatives and grounded in research and years of teaching across schools, special education, PRUs, colleges and universities. It embeds industry into education: taught by working practitioners, built on real briefs, and designed around neurodiverse learning practices so it works for every kind of learner. ### Can the H&G Methodology be licensed? Licensing is coming soon. Full details are being prepared. To talk about it sooner, get in touch through the Work with us page at hypeandgenius.com/work-with-us. ### How quickly does Hype & Genius respond to enquiries? Within two working days. ### What can I approach Hype & Genius about?
